Want to join our congregation?
Membership is more than just signing on a dotted line.
It’s less than receiving a long list of obligations.
Membership is a gift to you and you are a gift to us.
Members commit to communing and giving, but you’d be amazed at this: you have to do those things at least once a year. But giving to the work of the church and communing with your family of faith as often as you can is a privilege.
If you wish to join the congregation of Grace Lutheran Church, we would love to have you. Just speak to the pastor, and a date will be arranged, usually with some others who would also like to join. At the time of the creed, you would come forward, say the creed with everyone else, and then answer these questions:
• Do you give thanks to God for the Gift of the Gospel and the Gift of the holy, catholic and apostolic Church, and do you intend to make these thanksgivings a part of your prayers? Response: Yes, by the help of God.
• Do you intend to live in the holy hope declared to you by the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and to cling to the God who loves and clings to you? Response: Yes, by the help of God.
• Having heard your declaration of faith and your intention to live in the life of faith and receive its benefits, I now ask you, is it your desire to be united with us in the communion of saints at Grace Lutheran Church, and to share with us the responsibility of discipleship in this place? Response: Yes, by the help of God.
May the Holy Spirit guide and strengthen you all, that in this and in all things pleasing to God you may do God’s will in the service of the kingdom of his Son, Jesus Christ. Response: Amen.
Through affirmations of faith, God has made these brothers and sisters a part of the membership and family of Grace, that together we may proclaim the praise of God and bear God’s creative and redeeming Word to all the world.”
